Happy Solstice!
Yes, today is the first day of winter - the Winter Solstice. Shortest day of the year. Seattle's sunrise was at 7:54am and sunset will be at 4:21pm. A mere 8 hours and 33 minutes of daylight today (feel free to correct my math if it's wrong...).
And what a beautiful day it's been! It was raining this morning, but now it's blue skies and sunshine. A nice 48 degrees. There was a rainbow on my drive to work. I took it as a good sign.
And tonight is our departmental Winter Gathering. I have already decided that I will only drink diet coke, so as to avoid a repeat of last year's Winter Gathering. And I have to work tomorrow, so there's more incentive to not overdo it this year.
