Life Out Here

Just a small way to keep my friends and family, who are strewn about the country, in The Know about my life in Seattle.

Apparently, my stomach problem is just another bout of gastrointestinitis. Or a parasite. It could also be C.dif. which is a bacteria and very common in clinics, so one of the nurses told me at work. If this crap (no pun intended) is going on Tuesday, it's probably C.dif. and then it's a whole big thing. I won't gross you out with the details.

But if it's just gastrointestinitis (type that fast, three times), then it should be done by Monday. It normally goes about 10 days. In the meantime, however, I have lost five pounds this week so there's a perk. I can't each much more than plain pasta and bread and I'm drinking water like crazy. All and all, a good diet plan I think.

Funny thing though. When I first moved to Seattle, I was getting this (or food poisioning, it was never determined) about once every four months. I'd eat something and a few hours later all hell would break loose. And after 12 hours of all hell breaking loose, I'd end up in the emergency room, hooked up to fluids and anti-nausea medication. Very odd. Mom would tell me "That's what you get for living up there and eating sushi!!" I don't think it was ever sushi. I must have just caught a bug somewhere.

So tonight, I'm home while Steve is at band practice. Actually, I just got home. I went to Habitude for an express mani/pedi. Now my fingers and toes are all pretty. I deserve it, right? And I took Ruby into the body shop earlier today. It was really hard to let her go. But I know she's in good hands and I'll see her Thursday.

Sounds miserable. I hope you're feeling better soon! And I hope you've ruled out Celiacs. Your symptoms sound somewhat like my friend's, before she stopped eating gluten. "My insides being ripped out," or something like that, like constant flu. Pasta and bread?... Maybe white rice, instead.

are you sure it wasn't the sushi?

it could have been food posioning or norwalk virus.

hate them both! hope you feel better.

try taking probiotics too! that might help a little.

Thanks for your story. I've been in the hospital 4 days trying to figure out what caused this stomach problem. I think it was the sushi and fresh crab I ate --since you mentioned someone had suggested it to you.

I have the same thing! They told me it is garstrointestinitis. I had it for a week then I was better for a week and able to eat normal food and now have it again! I was in the hospital too the second time around because I wanted to make sure it wasn't something else. They still came to the same assumption. Yet I have no idea where I got it from either. All the doctors just keep asking me if I traveled anywhere, which I haven't. So next on the list is a gastrointerologist. I am so sick of this though. I've lost 15 pounds so far and have been living on tea, gatorade, water, plain pasta, and toast. I just want to be back to normal again.
