Life Out Here

Just a small way to keep my friends and family, who are strewn about the country, in The Know about my life in Seattle.

Renewed Faith

As you know, I bake cakes every month for my co-workers' birthdays. Last Friday was cake day and while I normally put the leftover cake in the fridge when I leave for the day, I forgot and left it out on the table in the kitchen. I remembered later that night, but thought someone would stick it in the fridge or just eat the rest of it and leave it in the sink for me.

When I came in Monday, the cake pan, and lid, were gone. And it was a $10 cake pan! So I left a note on the fridge that said "To whomever took my cake pan and lid, I'd like it back please." Very nice and unaccusing, I thought. Everyone around here was surprised that someone had stolen it. Maybe the cleaning crew just threw it away, without thinking, they said. This was the big story on Monday.

I came in this morning and a co-worker asked if I had been in the kitchen yet. I said no. She said, "Go in the kitchen." I thought, wow, someone brought the pan back!

Nope. Better.

There were three, brand new cake pans, with lids, and one with two boxes of cake mix stacked on the table. One of them was even Martha Stewart's brand.

I cried.

Sometimes I think life is too short to be in a job that makes me feel the way I do. But then my buddies do something so nice for me and it makes me want to stick around and do nice things for them. This may keep me going a little while longer.............
